The Lighthouse Witches by C.J. Cooke (2021)

A story of witchcraft, disappearances, and family secrets spanning decades.

Laura’s Rating: 2/5 Stars

Plot: Single mother Liv and her three daughters move to a remote Scottish island. The locals tell stories of witchcraft and disappearances, which Liv dismisses until 2 of her daughters go missing. Two decades later, the remaining sister receives a call that one of her siblings has been found - only she’s still 7 years old like she was when she disappeared.

Opinion: I didn’t love the alternating timelines and perspectives in this book, but I really don’t enjoy that storytelling format in general. I found the characters a bit tricky to keep track of as well so the switching perspectives didn’t help. Towards the end, timelines fold in on one another and I was a bit confused.

The mystery at the center of the book should have been more intriguing but I wasn’t super invested. There was a small twist that I figured out pretty early and was also then revealed pretty early on as well. By the end of the story, I did care about the characters, but The Lighthouse Witches just wasn’t really what I wanted.
