The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine (2017)
Laura’s Rating: 4/5 Stars
I am a sucker for thrillers and domestic dramas so this book was right in my wheelhouse. I also just discovered that the author published a prequel to the book entitled The First Shot, which I’m excited to check out soon!
The Analysis:
Amber Patterson’s life is plain, boring, and definitely lacking in funds. She wants a life like that of Daphne Parrish, the beautiful blonde socialite married to the handsome and successful Jackson Parrish. Amber decides to insert herself into the lives of the Parrish family in a quest to become more like them, but she has to be careful that none of her new friends discover the secrets of her past..
I have so much I want to say about this book but I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll just say that there were several twists that I enjoyed. Each chapter was crazier than the last and by the halfway point of the book, I couldn’t put it down. I had just a few complaints, including the fact that sometimes the dialogue felt too focused on advancing the plot and was unrealistically on topic during a scene. I needed some of the conversations to be more fleshed out in order to feel organic. There were also a few points that were left unaddressed at the end, which was annoying but not enough to ruin the book.
The Last Mrs. Parrish is a slow burn that suddenly bursts into flames. Fans of Verity or The Wife Upstairs would probably enjoy this thriller and I’d recommend it for a juicy summer read.
