The Inmate by Freida McFadden (2022)

The Inmate by Freida McFadden (2022)

A thriller that devolves into absolute absurdity.

Laura’s Rating: 2/5 Stars

Plot: Single mother Brooke Sullivan gets a job as a nurse practitioner at a maximum security prison. The prison where her ex-boyfriend is serving a life sentence based on Brooke’s testimony.

Analysis: The main character of this book makes such terrible decisions, which was annoying to read. The book was somewhat predictable and the unguessable twists were rather absurd. The ending was so dumb that it literally made me roll my eyes.

I would maybe describe this as a guilty pleasure read. It was entertaining and twisty, but not high quality. Frieda McFadden is definitely surging in popularity, so I may have to give another one of her books a try, but this one felt like a cheap paperback.

I enjoyed reading most of this book, but I couldn’t get over the last few chapters. The story was an interesting concept, but by the end it was absolutely ridiculous.
