Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger (2022)

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger (2022)

A scandalous locked room mystery featuring old friends and old secrets.

Laura’s Rating: 2/5 Stars

Plot: When three couples rent a secluded luxury cabin for the weekend, none of them expect to find themselves trapped by a storm with an over-involved host, a haunting backstory to the cabin, and worst of all: each other.

Analysis: I really like locked room mysteries, but due to the volume of them out there, they need to have something clever and unique to set them apart. This novel lacks likable characters, which makes it less fun to read. I’m fine with flawed characters, but this one just felt like everyone was a bad/annoying person. Because of this, there were too many lines of drama going on and I wasn’t super invested in any of them. There are several changing perspectives and different timelines in this book, and while most of the pieces eventually fit together, there was just way too much going on.

Overall, Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six was just an average thriller, with nothing that really made it stand out for me. This book reminded me of The Guest List by Lucy Foley, which also was not my favorite. If you enjoyed that one, maybe give this book a try.
