My Year in Books 2023- Best and Worst
This year my goal was to read 55 books and I managed to sneak in a few extra for 59 total books.
Here is my list of the best and worst books I read in 2023:
Best Books of 2023:
1. Remarkably Bright Creatures (5/5 Stars)
2. The Road (4.5/5 Stars)
3. Silence for the Dead (4.5/5 Stars)
4. Nothing to See Here (4.5/5 Stars)
5. Book Lovers (4.5/5 Stars)
Honorable Mention: Happy Place (4.5/5 Stars)
I included an honorable mention this year, a Lit and Flicks first, because Happy Place was the only other book I rated a 4.5 so I thought it deserved a shout out in addition to this year’s favorites.
Remarkably Bright Creatures was absolutely delightful to read and would be great for fans of Fredrick Backman, although I’d recommend the book to everyone. The Road was an unexpected favorite for me but it was incredibly well written and thought provoking. I continue to enjoy Emily Henry’s books and I’m looking forward to her next release in 2024.
Worst Books of 2022:
1. House of Leaves (1/5 Stars)
2. The Inmate (1.5/5 Stars)
3. The London Séance Society (1.5/5 Stars)
4. The Sanatorium (2/5 Stars)
5. Never Let Me Go (2/5 Stars)
My three worst books were easier to choose, but rounding out my worst of the year list was a little tricky as I had several 2 star reads. I included The Sanatorium and Never Let Me Go because I had high expectations for both books, so they were more disappointing.
I had a pretty big spread of ratings this year, with 4 being the most common star rating for me. Overall, I’m pretty happy with my selection of books this year with a few exceptions.
