Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier

Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier (2020)

Laura’s Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

This book was recommended to me by my friend Kate, who read it all in one sitting during a long car ride. Similarly, this book had me hooked and I finished it in just two days.

The Analysis:

Marin’s perfect life changed the day her son Sebastian went missing. Since then, she is filled with guilt, anxiety, sadness, and hope. “But hope can also be terrible. It keeps you wanting, waiting, wishing for something that might never happen.” Marin goes through her days in a fog, unable to move forwards with her life. When her husband starts acting strangely, Marin will begin to unravel a string of secrets that could destroy her in the process.

I liked the rawness and honesty of the main character, who felt like a real person, not just a polished character with predictable thoughts and urges. Some parts of the book are quite sad and serious, but this doesn’t overshadow the compelling plot line.

The pacing of this book was perfect. It kept me interested throughout and then really ramped up at the end. The novel starts out very focused on Marin’s son and his disappearance but strays away to other subjects towards the middle of the book. Just when I thought that the story was losing focus, everything snapped back into place to form a cohesive plot. Once I got to a certain point, I knew there would be a juicy ending and I couldn’t put it down. Thriller fans will absolutely devour this book and I highly recommend it.
