Ford v Ferrari (2019)

The true story of Ford’s quest to beat the legendary Ferrari racing team.

Laura’s Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

Plot: Automotive designer Carroll Shelby and his English driver, Ken Miles, are hired by Henry Ford II to build a Ford race car to defeat the dominant Italian Ferrari racing team. Their goal is to beat Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France.

Opinion: The setup may sound a bit boring, but I promise it’s not. The story is engaging, intense, and emotional. The politics of racing are interesting and the sub plot with Miles’s son is charming and compelling without being overly sentimental. There’s a solid soundtrack and great set design, plus some sweet looking cars.

I wouldn’t call it predictable, but I could anticipate some of the action. It’s also based on true events, so don’t expect twists if you’re at all familiar with the story. Even so, it’s worth it to watch it all play out on the screen.

Christian Bale and Matt Damon bring their A-game and deliver fantastic performances as Miles and Shelby. Ford v Ferrari has humor, heart, and lots of racing. I’d recommend it to racing fans and movie lovers alike.
