Movie Review:
The Godfather (1972)
Laura’s Rating: 4/5 Stars
The quintessential mafia movie and winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture really deserves a full length review but for #FoodandFlicks purposes, I’ll keep it short. The movie follows the slow development and evolution of Michael Corleone as he finds his place in his organized crime family. Many of the scenes in the film are famous and often still quoted over 50 years later. I’ve always been fascinated by the emphasis on and value of family by the mafia families, despite questionable moral actions that might indicate otherwise. The characters often say that interactions between families aren’t personal, they’re just business. Yet when blood relatives and loved ones are involved, actions are inherently personal. The Godfather is slower paced than modern mafia films, but has a satisfying story arch. A must see classic film.
