Movie Review:
Beauty and the Beast (2017) - 4/5 Stars
This live action film is the most expensive musical ever made and had the biggest opening day ever for a film that wasn't PG-13.
Admittedly, I was skeptical going into the movie simply because I love the 1991 animated classic so much. Luckily, Disney did an excellent job of staying true to the original movie with just a few additions and changes to keep the movie fresh. The classic songs and scenes were there, with an occasional verse switched out for something new. As in the original, Lumiere and Cogsworth were great, with the clock bringing a bit more humor and attitude this time around. The film had some beautiful visuals, although I wanted the colors to be more vibrant in order to truly display the beauty of the set and costumes. I do think the script relies a bit on the audience’s familiarity with the story and could have been better in certain places to enhance the depth of the story. Fans of the original will likely enjoy this update to the Disney classic.
