Elevation (2024)

A post-apocalyptic monster action film.
Laura’s Rating: 4/5 Stars
Plot: A settlement of people live at the top of a mountain away from huge creatures called Reapers that emerged years earlier and wiped out much of the population. No one has found a way to defeat the creatures, but a few settlers decide they must venture out of their safe area to retrieve medical supplies.
Opinion: This is a solid post-apocalyptic action movie. Sure, the genre has been done before, and it reminded me a bit of Bird Box, but the film has a couple of unique elements that allow it to stand on its own. The “Reapers” not venturing above 8,000 ft of elevation is an interesting element that also leads to interesting theories about the mysterious origins of the creatures. There are some pretty cool action and fighting scenes, with suspense, tenderness, and even a touch of humor to balance out the pacing.
I thought the acting was great and the relationships between the characters felt genuine and layered. I’m indifferent about the look of the monsters but they worked for me. I don’t think the movie is a cinematic masterpiece or anything, but for what it was trying to be, it worked well.
I’d recommend Elevation with some popcorn for an entertaining movie night.
