A Christmas Story Christmas (2022)
Laura’s Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
The sequel to a classic holiday favorite, the movie follows a now adult Ralphie, with a wife and kids of his own.
The Analysis:
Peter Billingsley reprises his role as Ralphie, who returns to Hohman, Indiana with his family on a quest to give his kids the same kind of magical Christmas experience that he had as a kid, courtesy of his dad.
The first third to half of the movie was slow…I really thought the whole thing was gonna be a bit of a snooze fest, but it really got better in the second half! Familiar characters and scenarios were sprinkled throughout but early on, the writing just didn’t hit right and the jokes fell flat. The film finally hit its groove though, and it ended up very heartwarming and enjoyable.
If you’re a fan of the first movie, there’s plenty of references and call backs that you’ll appreciate. There’s enough of a fresh spin to keep the movie from feeling stale, but the nostalgia is strong. If you can endure a slow start, I recommend A Christmas Story Christmas for a late holiday watch this year or to add to the list for next Christmas season.
